Fonda's Fabulous Funday Finds #9

Today, we're off to Leland, NC. We used to live in Leland, but now we only visit when we need to do something in Wilmington, NC. It's on the way. On this day, we hit the Leland Habitat for Humanity ReStore, The Hope Chest (raising funds to assist victims of domestic violence) and CIS (Communities in Schools) Thrift.

These are the items we found at the ReStore:

We always find books to bring home.

Misc. findings.

In case you can't make them out, we picked up some small white plastic baskets, some white-on-white fabric, Avery stickers, small cow bells for crafts and a package of brad punctuation marks.

A multi gadget knife.

A lawn edger that works great.

And, we put some of it in here!

Next are the items we purchased at The Hope Chest. We like to support them in the work they do to help victims of domestic violence. They have a few stores in our area, so we visit them when we can.

A book for Katie, a natural sponge, snowman garland, a wreath of bells, red yarn and red pompoms.

Katie decided she needed this sponge for her biology class room. I was hoping to use it to texture paint! This is larger than my hand!

The glass was broken, and we had an extra piece of glass at home.
 

For Katie.

I'm not sure why we purchased this Madonna. We usually are drawn to plain white AND without a baby. What were we thinking? Maybe Katie remembers?

Well, that concludes our trip to Leland. For a tiny town, it has these three thrift stores plus a furniture consignment store.

We found these things in the CIS (Communities in Schools) thrift near Sunset Beach:

5 picture frames.

Book.

There wasn't much there that we needed here, but we always have fun seeing what we can. This particular store is mostly clothing and accessories with small areas of books and housewares.

These next items were purchased at my friendly neighborhood Family Thrift. 

Wooden hangers, books, alphabet beads, die cut cards, zipper and a frame.

The following were purchased at the CIS thrift in Southport:

Katie books, paper bead necklace and seahorse earrings.

90-minute cassette tapes.

You don't see these too often any more. I hope to put them on eBay. I'll have to do a little research first.

 

Hanging lamp.

Get a load of this hanging lamp. I'm assuming it Mid-Century Modern. It has a long wire that plugs in. The wire is threaded through chain. The off/on switch is about 5 feet from the floor. In other words, it hangs from the ceiling but plugs into a receptacle near the floor.

Bird pictures.

 I think these bird pictures will be going into the guest room.

 

OpticFilm 7200.

Katie's mom had taken many photos, and most of them are on slides, so we are hoping to view them and make them into pictures if it's something Katie wants to do. I have to go through my family photos, too. We want to use some in the hallway to the bedrooms.

Office supplies are always welcome at my house.

Labels, tabs, "stamp licker" and digital screen care kit.

The labels will come in handy for a garage sale. The strip tabbing and the "stamp licker", for lack of a better description, will be for my art. And, who knows when one of our digital screens will need repair. 

Hallmark photo holder.

I thought I might be able to sell this online, but the market is saturated. 

Stack of small gelatin molds.

I have a small collection of these type of molds. I want to make a valance for the kitchen, so I'll have to figure how to make that happen.

Fish earrings.

Fish earrings. Free. Yep...spend enough time talking to some folks, and they'll let you have something. We admired a couch in that store. These are for Katie who is a fish girl. (Fun fact about Katie: That's what she went to college for, but by the time she got to her PhD, she was studying reverse osmosis. Now, she teaches biology at a local community college.) Found at 2nd Chance Decor.

Sometimes, taking the time to drive to the thrift store and get out of the car gets you a book. One. Book. Thank goodness the duds are far and few between. We had a great time looking around, but we didn't find anything we needed to bring home. Found at Three Sister in Southport.

I love these dainty flowers on this satiny dresser box. This is in stark contrast to the olive green, orange and white paisley dresser box I found earlier, for sure!!!! See it here.

Perhaps I can use the Tarot cards in my art.

Wood-burning kit.

This is definitely for my art...like I need another KIND of art kit to play with!!!

From a dresser box to a wood-burning kit ... and everything in between ...

Lucky Me! {continued}

Last week, I was talking about how lucky I am. I AM! Really! If you read last week, you know it for sure. If you haven't read last week, I'll wait until you catch up. Go ahead...I'll wait.

OK.

For this week, I will talk about the boxes I received from two women whose work I admire. The first one is Kathy of Petticoat Junktion. She is somewhat of a junk collector and a furniture remodeler/painter. She and her husband sometimes do projects together. For the contest I entered, Kathy put a bunch of goodies into a Priority box for one lucky person. That would be me!!!

I'm surprised the Starfish made it intact!

 Look at these goodies! There's paint, a jar of decoupage medium, a candle, a picture frame, a couple of blocks, a stencil (which I've never done) and the rubber stamp with a letter F for Fonda. That's me!

Yay! Handles! and shells!

I'm not sure what those doo-dads are in the upper left corner, so I don't know what to do with them. What is below it is a kit to make a small sign. I'll use it to hang on the stem of my pumpkin next year! Cute! Of course I can use the paint brushes, and the shells in the green Ball jar are lovely. I've added them to my extensive shell collection. And, the handles: one for a spigot and the other for a dresser drawer. I love them both, and they are worthy of display if not used on some future project. Much thanks to Kathy!

The next box came from Donna of Distressed Donna Downhome. She wrapped and presented each piece as a little gift. It was amazing. Let's get started.

I have to do something special with this.

This last package needs some special consideration. Apparently, Donna received this little bit of craft supplies from someone. She probably took a thing or two from it, replenished it with something new, then she sent it to me. I will take something from it, add a little something to it, and send it on to someone else. I've decided who, but I can't tell.

Inside the jar with the buttons and doo-dads was a shoe string holder with a bell for the baby shoes. Just one. But, it brought back memories of seeing the ones my parents used on my shoes when I was a baby.

Now, have you seen anything nicer than this giveaway. The packages. The contents. I'm not worthy! But, I am!!! Thank you so much to Donna and Horror Monster from whence the goodies came. You see Donna was cleaning out her crafty supplies. I guess she was beyond saturation. I don't know how she did it, but she sent all kinds of items that I would have chosen myself. Now, it's time to make something! I was so lucky to win this.
