The Moth and the Moon ATC/tag

This is an ATC (Artist Trading Card) or a tag.

I used my mini MISTI to stamp the moth and moon onto a manila-colored card stock. I colored in the elements using my Prismacolor colored pencils in yellow and purple, which are complementary colors on the color wheel. Then, I framed it in yellow. Next, I cut a 2 1/2" by 7" piece of purple card stock and folded it in half to measure 2 1/2" by 3 1/2", or the size of an ATC. Finally, I cut two lengths of yellow seam binding, folded them in half and stapled them to the top of the folded purple card stock. I folded that back to make a crease, so the purple card stock piece could be opened to write a note inside.

Autumn

This is an ATC (Artist Trading Card), measuring 2 1/2" by 3 1/2".

I started this ATC by gluing some German text to a sturdy substrate. Then, I stamped the word Autumn (Hero Arts) to one side using Archival Distress ink. I tore some orange gingham text-weight scrapbook paper and glued it to the bottom left of the card. I die cut all of the leaves and glued them in a pleasing manner to the card.

Panda Party

Today, I made an Artist Trading Card (ATC). They measure 3 1/2" by 2 1/2", and they are traded, never sold.

To start with, I cut a card out of heavy paper. Then, I masked most of the card and stamped the Chinese characters (Hero Arts). Then, I removed the mask and stamp the bamboo (All Night Media). Next, on a thinner piece of white card stock, I stamped the panda (Stampin' Up!) and cut it out using my scissors. After that, I colored in the dots on the party hat with markers. Then, I used my Sizzix to make the panda into a sticker and adhered it to the ATC. Next, I stamped the sentiment in red. Finally, I used a hole punch and threaded some recycled sari yarn into the hole and tied it off.

Another recent Artist's Trading Card

Here is another ATC I made for our swap. I mailed them out on Saturday. At the beginning of next month, I will get three from the other women who are part of the swap.

This one combines my love of sewing with my love of paper crafts.

To make this, I photo copied the front of a Vogue pattern I have. I resized it and printed it on white card stock. I cut around the figure with my craft knife, leaving "Vogue Pattern" attached. I glued that to my heavy ATC card blank. I used short applique straight pins I have and ran it through the fabric swatches so they appeared to be a part of a fashion idea board. Then, I glued a button and the two swatches of fabric to the right side of the card.

A recent Artist Trading Card

Here is an ATC I made recently. ATCs measure 2.5" by 3.5", so when I gave her wings, I needed to make sure they fit inside the card. When closed, she peeks out; when open, she flies.

How I made this: I found both images on The Graphic Fairy's site. I printed the little girl and the butterfly onto white card stock. I cut the little girl image down to 2.5" by 3.5" and glued her to my ATC blank. Then, I used white gesso and the tip of my paint brush to color in the flowers in her hair and on her corsage. I fussy cut the butterfly wings, eliminating the body. I punctured two holes into the card with the hole maker from my Silent Setter, and using paper fasteners, I pinned each wing to the little girl's shoulders. I made sure they could move easily into open mode, then I closed them for mailing.

I am submitting this to Simon Says Stamp's Monday challenge, and since it's my birthday, I have to win. Simple! lol

Last week I showed you my sewing-related ATCs, so you can see the beginning of the story there.

This week, I'd like to share the variety of ATCs I have made. They can be made out of any kind of material - fabric, paper, metal - which I will show.

Rubber stamps, flower cut from a postal stamp, red vellum circle, paper. One of my favorites.

Certain information is expected to be on the back. Here, I used a Change of Adress rubber stamp.

Aluminum paper, copper wire and band, paper from Asian novel.

Aluminum paper, circuit board {?} and transistors {?}.

This ATC has a secret compartment.

This ATC is in the shape of a purse. Inside, paper was folded origami style to fit inside.

Metal mesh, metal watch faces, beads to hold them on, and seam binding to keep the edges smooth.

My favorite number and the initial of my first name.

The following are all made of fabric with miscellaneous embellishments. The fabric was woven on a paper card.

I haven't made any ATCs in awhile, but after showing these, I just might get in the mood to make more.

My Art: Artist's Trading Cards - Sewing Related

In my art, I sometimes combine two of my favorite hobbies, which are sewing/quilting and paper crafts. 

Today, I will show you my Artist's Trading Card, or ATCs for short. These cards are the size of a playing card or sports trading card. They are always traded and never sold. They can be made of any material. I have used paper, fabric and metal to make mine.

The following are my sewing-related ATCs. Keep in mind that I have scanned them in, and since some are three dimensional, they might be somewhat fuzzy in their appearance, but you'll get the idea. For all of these, I started with a scanned picture of the front of a sewing pattern. Most are from the 50s and 60s. Some of these started out fuzzy due to the production of the patterns at the time they were made. So, here they are:

The heart brad and the veil to the hat was added to the picture.

Perhaps for pregnancy??? Something that would not be blatant in the 50s/60s.

This is my favorite.

I will show you some others next time showing a wider variety of subject matters that I have dealt with. I hope you enjoyed these.
